JAWF

Amman Design Week | 2026

JAWF consists of pieces shaped through the effects of inflation and deflation. As the first studio in Jordan to use this methodology in shaping stainless steel, JAWF explores the material beyond its expected behavior. Rather than forming a fixed solid, moments of positive and negative tension exhaust the material through hydromechanical forming. Internal pressure accumulates and redistributes surfaces, creating strong expressions and articulations of force while challenging the expected behavior of the material and producing a visually compelling condition.

The project investigates the emergence of concavity as a material phenomenon. Concave and convex surfaces emerge simultaneously as reciprocal conditions, establishing a continuous negotiation between membrane and cavity, where deformation gives rise to protected interiority and allows function to emerge.

Borrowing its name from the Arabic word for an inner chamber or protected cavity, JAWF understands void not as absence but as a condition held by matter. The steel remains reflective, compressed, and displaced, preserving the memory of the internal forces that shaped it.

Balloon | Project Trace

This trace describes the balloon as an object shaped entirely through internal pressure, where membrane and cavity exist in continuous dependence on one another. Rather than understanding form as a fixed condition, it reveals how enclosure emerges through force and disappears with its release. The collapsed balloon remains as the residual evidence of a geometry that can no longer sustain itself.

JAWF explores similar material conditions through hydromechanical forming. Rather than allowing form to vanish with the release of pressure, the project investigates how deformation can permanently record internal forces within steel. The resulting objects preserve a visible memory of pressure, where the surrounding material simultaneously acts as structure, enclosure, and function.
